That will be great the reason i had to bring a surfer file in was my Geotif file size was not supported and converted it in QGIS to a surfer raster

this is warning i get when i try to load a lidar tip raster image

Is it possible to increase the bits per sample ??

Increasing the bits per sample is a good suggestion and one that I've been thinking about for quite a while.

The good thing is that there is a work around available by using already existing programs to convert tif files; so that fact makes your suggestion less of a priority for me at this time.
